Can I claim my internet bill for tax in Malaysia?
Yes — a monthly internet subscription is covered by the lifestyle relief, but only if the subscription is registered in your own name.
This is the condition that catches people out. If the account is in a parent’s, spouse’s or landlord’s name, it is their subscription, not yours, and it is not your claim — even if you pay the bill. Check whose name is on the account before you count it. The subscription shares the lifestyle limit with reading materials, a computer or phone, and skills courses.
