Can I claim therapy for a child with autism or ADHD in Malaysia?

Yes — early intervention and rehabilitation for a child with a certified learning disability is claimable, with its own substantial cap inside the medical relief.

This covers a child aged 18 or under with a certified learning disability — autism, ADHD, global developmental delay, intellectual disability, Down syndrome, or a specific learning disability. It is one of the larger component allowances in the medical relief, and one of the least known. The certification is the part to organise early: the claim rests on the diagnosis being properly certified.

The relief this falls under

Medical expenses (serious diseases, fertility, vaccination, dental, examination and mental health, learning-disability intervention)up to RM10,000.00 for YA 2025

Within that, this specific claim is capped at RM6,000.00.

Whether a claim helps depends on the rest of your year — what else you have already claimed against the same limit, and what tax you owe. The calculator works it out from your own figures, free and without an account.
